Sociology Society Organized a Talk on Homelessness with the Çorbada Tuzun Olsun Association

26.12.2024

Our University's Sociology Society, in collaboration with Çorbada Tuzun Olsun Association, held a talk on the subject of "Homelessness". The event, in which the Association's Corporate Communications Coordinator Ali Ertürk, Recycling Unit Services Access Officer Mehlika Yıldırım and Volunteer Resource Officer Büşra Yılmaz were speakers, was held on December 23, 2024 in the Central Classroom Building Red Hall with the participation of our students.

In the program, comprehensive information was shared about the establishment process, operation, purpose, vision and mission of Çorbada Tuzun Olsun Association, which has been active since 2017. The association distributes food to homeless individuals who are among the vulnerable groups in the society at the same time and place every evening and aims to meet the basic needs of homeless individuals and to reintegrate them into society by communicating with them. In addition, it aims to ensure social integration and raise awareness on this issue. It acts with the idea that social development can be achieved without leaving anyone behind in society by providing support in many areas such as quitting substance and alcohol addiction, obtaining an ID, and accompanying them to hospital appointments. In this direction, the association, on the one hand, distributes food as a solution to the malnutrition problem of these individuals living in extreme poverty, and on the other hand, aims to support homeless individuals in obtaining an ID, getting a job and accessing the health system, thus supporting these individuals to have equal access to basic needs and strengthening disadvantaged groups.

In the talk, the motto “We are all candidates for homelessness” was highlighted and detailed information was provided on the types of homelessness. The speakers addressed the multidimensional nature of the issue by touching on different types of homelessness such as homeless, hidden homeless, beggars and children living on the streets.

With this event, our students strengthened their sense of social responsibility by gaining awareness about the struggle against many socioeconomic inequalities that homeless people are exposed to, such as poverty, food insecurity and neglected diseases, and the efforts to reduce poverty.
