A conference titled “Educating the Will” was organized in collaboration with the Istanbul Civilization University Wisdom and Civilization Community and the Young Green Crescent Community, with the participation of Green Crescent General President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Dinç. The conference, held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at the South Campus Aşık Paşa Conference Hall, was held with the intense participation of our students.
The program began with the recitation of the Quran, and our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Yaşar Bülbül made the opening speech, stating that universities are not institutions that only convey knowledge, and said, “A good person is someone who does their job well. We see our students as the yeast of society and aim to raise them not only professionally but also as morally equipped individuals.”
Speaking at the conference, Yeşilay President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Dinç made remarkable assessments on the challenges faced by youth, the goal-setting process, and willpower training. Emphasizing in his speech that feelings such as boredom and difficulty are a natural part of the learning process, Dinç said, “Everyone gets bored from time to time; the important thing is to accept these feelings and move on.”
Defining the concept of willpower with the words, “Willpower is the power to give up what we love right now because we love the most,” Dinç drew attention to the importance of setting goals in areas that the person both loves and is talented in. He stated that the individual is more interested in these areas and learns much faster.
Stating that young people who cannot find their way when setting goals should definitely get inspiration from a guide or people they can look up to, Dinç said, “We should wake up every day with the awareness of a new opportunity and learn not to give up. No baby gives up learning to walk,” and touched on the importance of determination and continuity. He also stated that making an effort despite difficulties and excuses and being in a supportive environment contributes greatly to success.
At the end of the program, a raffle was held among the participants and the book titled “Educating the Will” written by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Dinç was given as a gift to 10 people. The event ended with the presentation of a gift to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Dinç by Abdülvehhab Demir, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Wisdom and Civilization Community.
