Dr. Ayse Polat Presented Paper at Oxford University

A faculty member in the Department of sociology, Dr. Ayşe Polat participated in an interdisciplinary workshop titled "Religion as a Changing Category of Muslim Practice" at Pembroke College, Oxford University on 24 May 2019. At the workshop, she presented a presentation titled "Mapping out late Ottoman Terms for Religion and Irreligion". In the presentation, Polat examined the concepts of "religion" and "secularism" in a geneologic way through the Ottoman writings on the concepts of "religion," "irreligion," and "secularism" in the late Ottoman and early Republican periods.
