A conference titled "Artificial Intelligence and the Future" was held at our university, featuring Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Aydın, who is renowned for his work in the fields of artificial intelligence and neuroscience. The event, which drew intense interest from academics, students, and numerous participants from various disciplines, served as an indicator of the importance our university places on scientific and contemporary issues.
In the opening speech of the program, our Dean, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Koçak, stated that such events held university-wide create a strong environment for academic interaction by bringing different fields together. He emphasized that artificial intelligence is not only at the center of engineering or technology but also involves human dimensions such as language, thought, and society. Koçak also noted that interdisciplinary studies and high-quality scientific events will continue to increase at the university.
Following him, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Gülfettin Çelik, stated in his speech that artificial intelligence has become the driving force of a major transformation on a global scale. Noting that this transformation brings not only technological but also social, economic, and cultural consequences, Çelik emphasized that universities must correctly interpret this process to both produce knowledge and raise social awareness. He expressed that the university aims to prepare students and academics for the world of the future through such events.
Following the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Aydın took the stage and addressed the current state of artificial intelligence and its potential future directions within a comprehensive framework. Explaining the use of AI in fields such as healthcare, defense, education, and communication with examples, Aydın pointed out that the interaction between the human brain and artificial systems will increasingly deepen.
Sharing striking predictions, Aydın focused on the possibilities that, in the coming years, humans might be able to control their dreams, consciousness processes could be monitored more closely, and even some cognitive experiences could be reproduced through AI-supported systems. Expressing that the boundaries between the human mind and technology will become increasingly blurred, Aydın stated that this situation would create both great opportunities and serious ethical debates. He specifically drew attention to the fact that concepts such as consciousness, free will, and privacy might have to be redefined.
Aydın also emphasized that artificial intelligence should not be seen merely as a tool that makes life easier, but also as something that has the potential to guide human behavior and influence decision-making processes. In this context, he stated that issues such as the transparency of algorithms, data security, and the preservation of human control are of critical importance. Expressing that if AI is not developed consciously and ethically, it could create negative effects on social structures, Aydın noted that this process must be handled with an interdisciplinary perspective.
In the Q&A session held during the remainder of the conference, participants asked questions on many topics such as the future of AI, the human-machine relationship, ethical issues, and its effects on the education system. This highly interactive session revealed the intense interest and awareness of the audience on the subject.
The event, which took place with heavy participation and great interest, concluded with the satisfaction of the participants.
